CHAMBERS COUNTY (Governor’s Office) – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Robert Bentley on Tuesday awarded three Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to the cities of Valley and Lanett and the Cleburne County Commission.
“These grants will go a long way in these communities as they look to improve their economies and quality of life for their citizens,” Governor Bentley said. “These communities are better prepared to grow their economies and attract businesses when they have the resources to make improvements to their infrastructure. Without the CDBG funds these municipalities would not be able to afford much needed upgrades. I am proud to be able to award these very important grants to make sure future growth is possible.”
The city of Valley was awarded a $250,000 grant that will be used to construct a new senior center at the Valley Community Center Complex. The city of Lanett was awarded a $221,196 grant that will be used for a downtown revitalization project along North Lanier Avenue. The Cleburne County Commission was awarded a $341,131 grant that will provide funds to extend water service to 23 households and improve water service to 25 households in Cleburne County.
CDBG grants are made available through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).
“ADECA’s community development block grants are important investments in the quality of life for Alabama communities,” ADECA Director Jim Byard, Jr. said. “This year, ADECA received 108 applications for projects that support economic and community development. We were able to award 54 projects totaling $17.5 million in investments. I am proud of the projects chosen this year, especially this project for Valley, Lanett, and Cleburne County.”
The CDBG program provides communities with resources to meet development needs and goes to affect the lives of millions of people throughout the country.
