Central Library AC update – Reduced hours extending into next week

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – (RealEstateRama) — Due to repairs necessary to fix air conditioning issues, the Birmingham Public Library (BPL) announced today that reduced operating hours in its East Building at 2100 Park Place downtown will be extending into next week (early August).

Since HVAC problems began last week, the East Building’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors have been open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., closing early due to the increased afternoon heat. Interim BPL Director Sandi Lee announced that repairs by the City of Birmingham, which owns the building, should be completed sometime next week.

The Central Library (East Building and Linn-Henley Research Building) will be closed Sunday, July 31, 2016. The first floor of the East Building (Fiction Department/Circulation Department) and the Linn-Henley Research Library will be open Monday through Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the East Building will continue to close at 1 p.m.

“Our situation will be re-evaluated on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, and we hope to be back at regular hours,” Lee said in a statement. Check back with the BPL website for updates.
