WASHINGTON, DC – (RealEstateRama) — In an effort to ensure every home is equipped with a working smoke detector, the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) and the American Red Cross are teaming up to provide and install battery powered smoke alarms at no cost to the citizens of Mobile. Additionally, firefighters will educate every household where alarms are installed on fire safety and smoke alarm maintenance.
MFRD will concentrate on groups who are high-risk targets for fires including older adults, young children, people with disabilities and low-income communities. Firefighters will spend two months in every City district. The first month will be dedicated to promoting the Home Fire Campaign and the second month will be focused on smoke alarm installation and education.
“I want to applaud the American Red Cross for working with us to protect our citizens from harm,” said Mayor Stimpson. “Mobile has a long history of helping neighbors in need, and we applaud our local heroes who give their time and talent to others.”
Last week, Mayor Stimpson proclaimed March “American Red Cross Month” in the City of Mobile because of their strong partnership with the Administration to respond to disasters and emergencies.
All citizens interested in participating in the smoke alarm program are encouraged to contact MFRD at 251-208-5802.
